Dolphn Technologies can manufacture parts from a wide range of metals. Below are some examples of common alloys. Other alloys & materials can be processed inquire with specific applications. Lower melting point materials, like aluminium and zinc, are not suitable for MIM processing.

Material Properties

After sintering, a MIM part will have some residual porosity. Densities of 98-99% are possible. The pores are rounded, evenly dispersed and do not have a dramatic effect the mechanical properties of the parts. Since powder is used as a starting material, the microstructure of the metal will be very uniform. Consequently, the mechanical properties are near isotropic and the corrosion resistance superior to cast and wrought materials.

To improve properties, parts can be Hot Isocratic Pressed (DR), which will remove the closed porosity. Since DR adds cost, its generally applied only to critical parts for medical and aerospace application.
