Rubber to metal bonding

Rubber to metal bonding is a generic phrase covering a number of interdependent processes. The rubber bonded units that result from the process are used for the isolation of noise and vibration in automotive and engineering applications. Generally, larger units are used to decouple translational movement for bridges and buildings.

Twelve years ago the Rubber to Metal Bonding was regarded as a ‘black art’. Now the technology allows the production of a uniform, high quality product that is free from failure. Much of the science behind the technology remains cloaked in uncertainty; however, it is sure to become an important part of future developments. Nowadays, environmental concerns have an impact on all aspects of commerce. The product is no exception; accordingly, the process is changing to reflect these concerns.

Dolphin Rubber manufacturer has the ambition to provide the best quality Rubber to Metal Bonding to its customers. At present, the major markets are North America, Asia, and Europe.

Rubber to Metal/Plastics

When manufactured correctly, rubber bonded to metal components are highly effective for noise reduction in automobiles and in other engineering applications where it is important to minimize the impact of mechanical vibration. Rubber bonded to metal component parts can be manufactured from most rubber compounds as long as an appropriate bonding agent and substrate is utilized. The selection of the right bonding agent is crucial to ensure that the part manufactured from rubber to metal bonding is able to withstand the required operating environment. The type of bonding agent used depends on the type of rubber and substrate to be bonded. Both water-based and solvent-based bonding agents are available. The type of substrate used in the rubber to metal bonding process is also vitally important. Rubber will bond to almost any substrate, but for most applications a metal substrate is most effective for rubber to metal bonding.

Rubber to Metal Bonding

Whether it is a complex non-conductive HNBR to copper bonding or a simple steel to natural rubber bonding, Dolphin Rubber has the experience, scope and bonding technology to make it work. From one-offs to mass production we use laboratory tested bond agents and ultrasonic cleaning technology to give your product the best bond possible. Dolphin Rubber offer hot and cold bonding services. All hot bonding takes place during the rubber moulding process at around 160 degrees C and between 50 and 150 tonnes of pressure. There are many advantages of bonding during the moulding process plus it gives a very high quality finish as no ‘glue’ is involved.
