Common Moulding Processes

Compression Moulding involves placing the uncured rubber compound into a heated, open mould cavity, then closing the mould under pressure (usually in a hydraulic press) to initiate vulcanization (curing). Transfer Moulding requires the uncured rubber compound to be placed in a transfer chamber, heated, then forced into the mould cavity under pressure until cured. Injection Moulding entails preheating uncured rubber in a chamber, then injecting it into a closed, heated mould.

Because transfer and injection moulds remain closed throughout the moulding process, they are generally capable of producing more intricate and consistent parts than compression moulds. Though they’re more expensive to produce, transfer and injection moulds also allow for higher temperatures, shorter cure times, and reduced finishing costs.

Formed Hoses

Dolphin Rubber is a major supplier of formed hoses to some of world’s leading original equipment manufacturers. Hoses may look simple, but there are many things to consider when designing hose for specific application. Our engineers work with our customers, & material development & quality teams to ensure that all hoses meet or exceed specifications.

Formed hoses are generally composed of multiple layers. The innermost layer, or tube, is typically made of homogeneous rubber. The critical function of the tube is to chemically and thermally resist the media being conveyed. The tube may require fabric or wire reinforcement, which is the second layer of most hoses. The outermost layer is the cover. The cover’s main functions are to protect tube, provide reinforcement, & resist deterioration.


Material selection depends on the function of the hose. Dolphin Rubber can design custom hoses for specialized applications, or manufacture hoses to SAE J20 and J30 specifications. Materials commonly used in hose manufacturing include Ethylene- Propylene (EPDM), Fluoroelastomer (FKM), Nitrite (NBR), Chloroprene (CR), Epichlorohydrin (ECO), Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene (CSM) and Silicone (VMQ).


A formed hose starts as an extruded tube. As the tube moves along a production line, reinforcement and additional rubber layers are added. The hose is then cut to length and fitted onto a mandrel that will dictate its final shape. The mandrel and hose are placed in an autoclave to cure the rubber. Once the rubber is cured, the hose is removed from the mandrel and trimmed to its final length.

Radial Lip Shaft Seals

Also known as oil seals, shaft seals are used with rotating, reciprocating & oscillating shafts to contain fluids & exclude contaminants. we offers a wide range of standard shaft seals, designs & develops custom seals for specialized applications. O-Rings and Back Up Rings

We specialize in high performance O-ring materials such as Fluorocarbon (FKM) for high temperature and chemical resistance, Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR) for high temperature, abrasion and compression set resistance, and Polyurethane for abrasion and extrusion resistance. Back-up rings to prevent extrusion under extreme pressure and operating conditions are available in high modulus rubber, Polyurethane, Hytrel® and engineering plastics such as PTFE, PPS and PEEK. Lathe-Cut Seals

Lathe-cut seals are economical square or rectangular cross-section seals used in a variety of applications, including static seals and drive belts. Lathe-cut seals are available in diameters ranging from 0.25 in. (6 mm) to 7 in. (178 mm).


We offer a full range of die-cut, moulded and composite gaskets utilizing a wide variety of materials, including flexible graphite, PTFE, non-asbestos sheeting, cork, fibres, and metal, with or without pressure sensitive adhesive.

Custom Molded Plastic Products

Moulding Solutions has the capability of manufacturing all types of injection moulded plastic products. The niche in which Moulding Solutions has excelled is in those special plastic products that demand special attention or unusual techniques to mould.
An example of special processes are products in "rubber-like" materials (TPR, TPE or TPU materials). Common injection moulding technology assumes a rigid product, so these materials require special techniques to mould effectively.
Other plastic products that we have successfully manufactured involved special cooling fixtures, ultrasonic welding, unusual process controls or secondary operations.
